A Sukkah Blessing in Honour of Islamic Heritage Month

G-d of HagarAbraham's concubine and the mother of Ishmael, the patriarch of Islam. In the book of Genesis, when Sarah cannot conceive, she suggests that Abraham takeher servant Hagar as a concubine in order to conceive a child, which she promptly does. Feeling threatened by Hagar and her child, Sarah convinces Abraham to banish them from their home. Sarah, in Rabbinic tradition, is considered holy, beautiful, and hospitable. Many prayers, particularly the Amidah (the central silent prayer), refer to God as Magen Avraham – protector of Abraham. Many Jews now add: pokehd or ezrat Sarah – guardian or helper of Sarah., Ishmael and AbrahamAbraham is the first patriarch and the father of the Jewish people. He is the husband of Sarah and the father of Isaac and Ishmael. God's covenant - that we will be a great people and inherit the land of Israel - begins with Abraham and is marked by his circumcision, the first in Jewish history. His Hebrew name is Avraham.,
We beg of you: Heed our call in the dry places.
The parts of the desert made uninhabitable by our divisions, our resentments and our iniquities.
And in these places, place a well of goodness, decency and communal knowing.
That we may gather around the water.
Nurture all life through the water.
Quench justice’s thirst from the water.
And replenish our world, by the blessing of the water.
May you come to us in righteous rejoicing,  signaling to us the time to share life and revel in the beauty of being alive together.
