Seven Blessings

newborn girl

Lenny:

This ceremony is one of covenant brit. Through our actions today our daughter enters into a covenant relationship with the history and the life of the Jewish people, tying her destiny to that of her people and imbuing her life with meaning. Ten and one half years ago, Lori and I entered into a covenant of another sort kiddushin the covenant of marriage. That covenant was sealed over a cup of wine and the recitation of seven blessings. We ask our parents and sisters to recite seven blessings, based on those of the wedding ceremony. As they come up and recite a blessing, we ask each family member to sign our daughter’s naming certificate.
