People’s Inauguration Covenant

By Rabbi Lauren Grabelle Herrmann
A protestor is pictured marching in a large crowd. They have long hair pulled back, sunglasses on their face, a blue bandana tied around their neck and are shouting into a megaphone. Additional protestors can be seen next to them.

Hineni. Here I am.
I enter into this covenant today
with all those who have come before me
and all those will come after.
I commit to be an eved Adonai,
a servant of the Divine and the divine will.
I will seek to heal and rebuild our country
to the best of my ability,
to preserve, protect and defend dignity and justice
for myself and all around me,
especially those most vulnerable.
I will strive to be an active participant in our democracy,
A partner toward tikkun olam,
the healing and repair of our broken world.
