Journeying

Neither of us believes

in God

yet each time she flies

she sends a text:

boarding now

off I go

mwah

and then:

landed

Honiara, Jakarta,

back home in Canberra

and, best:

at gate JFK!

We two skeptics

know that it is these

little prayers—

tapped by thumbs

that once, when sucked,

were all

that was needed for

homeland security—

offered up to ether

and beamed down to me

that keep her safe.
