Gates of Awe: Writing New High Holiday Liturgy

Led by Alden Solovy
Wednesdays, June 23, 30, July 7, 14 and August 18, 2021, 12:00 PM–1:30 PM EST

Prepare for the High Holidays with an exploration of four treasures from our High Holy Day Machzor with liturgist Alden Solovy. Our goal is to use classic prayer as our writing prompts. Each 90-minute session focuses on one of four foundational prayers of the High Holy Days. Each session will also include time for writing, small group readings and discussion, as well as a wrap up. We’ll examine the Unetaneh Tokef (Power of the Day), Vidui (Confession), Kol Nidre (Release), and Avinu Malkeinu (Almighty and Merciful). The sessions will include exploration, conversation, writing, and exchange. After the final class on July 14th, you’ll have a month to polish your work after which we’ll gather again on August 18th for a closing meeting where we’ll read and share our work and the journey.

Although sessions will be recorded and sent to you afterwards, live participation in the session is recommended.
